Welcome to ecohome! These terms of use (“terms”) govern your access and use of the ecohome mobile application and related services (“app”). By accessing or using the app, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Scope of ecohome
You can sign up using your Apple, Google, Meta (Facebook), or Microsoft account, or by using your email address with a one-time passcode (OTP). For sign-in through an identity provider, ecohome does not store or manage your credentials, and we highly recommend you secure that account using multifactor authentication (MFA). For email OTP sign-in, we send a single-use passcode to your email address to verify it is you.
2. User accounts
2.1 User Login or Authentication:
You may sign in through a supported identity provider (Apple, Google, Meta (Facebook), or Microsoft) or by using your email address with a one-time passcode. For identity-provider sign-in, ecohome does not store or manage your credentials, and we recommend multifactor authentication. For email OTP sign-in, you are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure and for not sharing the passcode with anyone; ecohome will never ask you for your passcode outside the sign-in screen.
2.2 User registration or Signup:
When you sign up you will be prompted to create a unique household name. This name identifies your account and can be linked to additional accounts in the future. You can create multiple households to manage your inventory at multiple residences.
2.3 Account information:
You are required to maintain the accuracy of your account information and the accuracy of the information of items you share, sell, or donate. Failing to do so may result in disablement or removal of the account.
2.4 Account deletion:
The app provides an account deletion page where you can permanently remove your account. Upon deletion, your user content will be deleted and/or anonymized.
3. User conduct
Section 3.1
You agree to use the app for its intended purpose and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Section 3.2
You are prohibited from:
- engaging in any illegal or unauthorized activity.
- uploading or sharing content that is offensive, hateful, or discriminatory.
- violating the intellectual property rights of others.
- disrupting the functionality of the app.
- sharing your login credentials with third parties.
- contributing photos that contain other people, faces, or personal information (such as receipts or documents) without the right to share them.
- listing for sale or donation any item that is unlawful, stolen, counterfeit, recalled, hazardous, or otherwise prohibited by applicable law or by the relevant marketplace or donation platform.
Section 3.3
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account for any violation of these terms.
4. User Contributions and Community Content
4.1 What this covers. The app lets you optionally contribute product photos to a shared product catalog (“Community Content”). Contribution is optional and is chosen by you on a per-user, per-item basis each time you contribute. You must be at least 18 years old to contribute Community Content, and by contributing you confirm that you are.
4.2 License you grant. By contributing Community Content, you grant ecohome a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example, crop, resize, or reformat), publish, publicly display, and distribute that content within the ecohome services — including showing it to other ecohome users as the representative image for the relevant product. You retain ownership of your content. This license applies only to content that is approved and published as a catalog image; content you contribute that is not approved is kept private and is not shared with other users.
4.3 Your responsibilities. You represent and warrant that: (a) you own or have all rights necessary to contribute the content and to grant the license above; (b) the content does not infringe or violate any third party’s intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights; and (c) the content does not contain people, faces, receipts, documents, or other personal information of you or anyone else that you do not have the right to share.
4.4 Screening, moderation, and removal. Contributions are screened automatically and reviewed by a moderator before any sharing. Until a contribution is approved it remains private to your account. We may reject, adapt, or remove any contribution at our discretion, and approval is not guaranteed. You may request removal of content you contributed by contacting support.
4.5 Rewards. You may earn rewards or points for approved contributions under the applicable rewards program terms, which we may change or discontinue.
5. Insurance Savings Estimates
The app may show a generic, informational estimate of potential home-insurance savings based on devices in your inventory and any policy information you choose to upload for your own reference. This feature is neutral and educational. It is designed to help you understand what your existing policy may already offer and whether you may be eligible for a discount, so that you can raise the question with your own insurer. The app does not recommend, promote, or steer you toward any particular insurer or policy.
- ecohome does not sell, solicit, negotiate, adjust, or bind insurance, does not recommend any particular insurer or policy, and does not provide insurance advice. ecohome is not an insurer, insurance agent, broker, producer, or adjuster.
- ecohome is not compensated by any insurer, agent, or broker for any estimate or information shown to you.
- Estimates are generic, automatically generated, and unverified. They are not a quote, offer, or guarantee, and any actual discount depends solely on your insurer’s own terms and decision.
- If the name of an insurer appears, it does not imply any affiliation, appointment, partnership, business relationship, or endorsement between ecohome and that insurer.
- You, not ecohome, decide whether to contact your insurer and whether to submit any request. Any discount request or claim goes to your insurer, not to ecohome, and all decisions are yours.
6. Selling Your Items via Third-Party Marketplaces (eBay)
The app offers an optional feature that lets you list your own items for sale on a third-party marketplace (initially eBay) using your own marketplace account.
- You are the seller of record under your own marketplace account. ecohome is a technology facilitator and is not a party to, and is not responsible for, any sale, the item, its description, fulfillment, returns, refunds, disputes, taxes, or marketplace fees.
- Authorization and third-party terms. By connecting your marketplace account, you authorize ecohome to prepare and submit listings on your behalf. Your connection and use of the marketplace are subject to that marketplace’s own user agreement, developer/API terms, and privacy policy, and you represent that you are permitted to list items through a connected third-party application such as ecohome.
- You approve every listing before it goes live. No listing is published to the marketplace until you have reviewed and expressly approved its final content. Once you approve a listing, you are solely responsible for its content, including the title, description, photos, condition, quantity, and price.
- AI-generated content. Listing descriptions and price estimates may be generated automatically and are provided “as is” without any guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or sale price. They are drafts for your review; you must verify and correct them, and they are not published until you approve them.
- Compliance. You must comply with the marketplace’s policies and all applicable laws, and must not list prohibited, unsafe, recalled, counterfeit, or unlawful items.
- Payments. ecohome does not receive, hold, transmit, or have access to sale proceeds at any point. Buyers pay you directly through the marketplace, and the marketplace’s fees and tax handling apply.
- Your indemnification. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ecohome and its affiliates, officers, and employees from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to an item you list, its condition or legality, the fulfillment of any sale, or the accuracy of any listing content you approved.
7. Marking Items for Donation
Currently, the app lets you mark an item in your inventory as intended for donation. This is a personal flag on your own inventory: it is visible only to you and helps you keep track of items you may wish to donate later. At this time, items you mark for donation are not shared with any nonprofit organization, volunteer, or other user, and the app does not match donations, arrange collection, provide in-app donation chat, or facilitate any handoff.
- No sharing at this time. Marking an item for donation does not publish the item, share your identity or contact information, or make the item visible to anyone else.
- Item condition and legality. You are responsible for ensuring that any item you may later donate is lawfully yours to give and is not recalled, hazardous, or otherwise unsafe or prohibited.
- Future donation features. We may later introduce features that make items you mark for donation available to registered nonprofit organizations or volunteers (for example, through the ecohome.gives portal) and that support arranging collection. Those features are not active today. Before we enable them, we will provide the applicable terms — covering matters such as what information is shared, in-person handoff safety, indemnification, charitable-registration and tax-receipt matters, and the relationship between ecohome and any nonprofit platform — and give you any notice required.
- Taxes. ecohome does not issue donation receipts or valuations and does not provide tax advice.
8. Referral and Partner Program
ecohome may operate a referral/partner program in which partners (for example, real-estate agents or insurance agents) share co-branded links or codes.
- If you sign up through a partner’s link or code, ecohome records an association between your account and that partner. You will be shown a notice and may dispute or remove the attribution.
- Partners receive only aggregate, non-identifying results and never your personal data, inventory, or activity.
- Partners are not paid and receive no compensation or other thing of value — including cash, fees, discounts, rebates, data access, or any other benefit — in connection with referrals, and ecohome’s agreements with partners prohibit any such compensation. Participation does not entitle you or any partner to compensation. Any future incentive program would be introduced only under additional terms and only after review for compliance with applicable laws.
9. Intellectual property
ecohome and its content, including logos, designs, and trademarks, are protected by intellectual property laws. Content you contribute remains yours; you license it to ecohome as described in Section 4. Third-party names and marks (such as marketplaces, insurers, and partners) are the property of their respective owners, and their appearance in the app does not imply affiliation or endorsement. You must not use ecohome to infringe, or to cause ecohome to infringe, any third party’s intellectual property or the terms of any third-party service.
10. Disclaimer
The app is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We provide information, estimates, and AI-generated content on a best-effort basis and do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness, or reliability. ecohome is not a party to, and disclaims responsibility for, transactions, donations, insurance decisions, and in-person interactions between you and third parties.
11. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ecohome and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) content you contribute, list, sell, or donate through the app, including its accuracy, condition, safety, or legality; (b) your use of any third-party marketplace or the ecohome.gives donation platform; (c) any in-person meeting or handoff you arrange; or (d) your violation of these terms or of any applicable law or third-party rights. This section is in addition to any specific indemnification you agree to in Sections 6 and 7.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ecohome shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including from any sale, donation, insurance request, partner referral, or interaction with third parties facilitated through the app.
13. Changes to the terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the revised terms on the app and updating the “Last updated” date above. Where a change is material, we may also provide additional notice or ask you to acknowledge the change. Your continued use of the app after the revised terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
